Totus Tuus . . . Totally Yours

When Pope John Paul II was shot on May 13, 1981, in St. Peter's Square, he remembered what a student had said to him the year before... that there was no image of Mary among all the saints in St. Peter's Square.  Convinced that Mary intervened to save his life that day (on the feast of the first apparition at Fatima, no less), in gratitude he had one of the windows overlooking the square filled in and a mosaic added with the title Mater Ecclesiae (Mother of the Church).  His motto, which is our school's motto, Totus Tuus, is also inscribed in the mosaic.

Maria, Mater Ecclesiae,

Ora pro nobis.

"The education of the moral conscience... cannot be renounced."

Saint John Paul II, Familiaris Consortio
